The Introduction to Leadership Training course explains what makes a good leader, how certain skills can be developed to help be a good leader, and how these skills can be implemented into any given situation.

There are many types of examples of leadership which include leading an army into battle, running a household, being captain of a sports team, helping a team work together efficiently, stepping up in a crisis, sharing skills and knowledge with empathy and effectiveness, helping and encouraging others and inspiring others by sharing ones vision and passion for creative positive change.  Whether you are a high ranking member of your organisation, just starting out in your career or whether you are just somebody who wants to make a difference, this Introduction to Leadership training course is for you.

In this course, we will explore the idea of leadership, what it means to be a leader, what qualities leaders have, and it will provide you with some tips on improving your own leadership skills.

The course explains what makes a good leader, how certain skills can be developed to help be a good leader, and how these skills can be implemented into any given situation.

The course is split into two sections:

Leadership

This section covers what leadership is not which helps you to define what leadership might look like.

Leadership is not about having all the answers but a good leader will recognise this truth and bring the right people together to find the answer through discussion.

Leadership is not about the power and authority the role may bring.  A good leader is able to act from a place of empathy and is able to convince others without abusing their power and authority.

Good leadership is not management.  It is all about attitude, behaviour and people skills.  A manager tells you want to do whereas a leader shows you what to do.

Good leadership is not about the leader, they perform a largely selfless role and work to improve lives for others by empowering them, and enabling people to dream, grow, flourish and succeed. 

Good leadership is not rare, anyone of us can be a leader, as we all possess leadership skills within us.  The trick is to embrace the leader already within us.  All of our skill sets are different, there is not a particular skill set that defines a leader but good leaders do envision change, implement plans, treat people with kindness and motivate and empower others to help make their vision a reality.

This section also introduces you to the different types of leadership styles such as authoritarian, democratic, delegative, transactional and transformative. The best leaders are able to adapt their style to suit the situation and the team of people they're currently leading.  

This section finishes with a question about the different styles of leadership to ensure your understanding of the content.

Embracing Leadership

This section of the Introduction to Leadership training course looks in more detail at the four qualities that a good leader will demonstrate.

Envisioning change
This section consists of a set of 5 questions to help you outline what your vision is.

Implementing plans 
This section will show you how to apply the Smart principles to plan out your vision.

Motivating people
When you have planned out your vision you need a team to implement the plan.  Motivational language is a great skill to learn in order to achieve the success of your team implementing your vision.  Learn about the different types of motivational language.

Adapting to change
To be successful in leading a team and making your vision become a reality being able to adapt to changes is key.  Adapting to change means being diverse, continually learning, and making your workspace a safe space.
