This online Anti-Bribery training course has been designed to increase awareness for any employee who could possibly be exposed to bribery in the workplace. It is important that everyone understands the consequences of becoming involved in bribery and the course explains what bribery is and how you, and your organisation, can be affected by it and what can be done to prevent it.
The course also covers what is defined by bribery and what actions that may not seem like bribery legally count as a bribe. The course helps the user understand parts of the Bribery Act 2010 that applies to them, understand what happens if they fail to prevent bribery, and know the common indicators of a bribe.
This course is split into three sections.
In this section the course looks at what bribery is, the Bribery Act and the different offences that can be committed.
Bribery is offering a reward to someone to purposely do something improperly - ignoring proper procedure - essentially breaking the trust of the organisation you work for.
This section looks in detail at three of the four offences that can be committed under The Bribery Act which are bribing another person, being bribed and the bribery of foreign public officials.
There are then three different scenarios given, each with multiple choice answers as to what you feel the correct solution to the situation is. These will enhance your practical understanding of what constitutes a bribe in a workplace situation.
This section looks in detail at the fourth and final offence that can be committed under the Bribery Act which is failing to Prevent Bribery.
It’s a corporate offence, which means it’s an offence that only companies or organisations can commit, but it’s related to the actions of its employees – which means something YOU DO could result in your organisation being guilty of the offence – so you need to know about it.
The only way an organisation can defend itself against this offence is if it can show it has adequate procedures in place to prevent bribery. This section looks in detail at the six principles that procedures should include for preventing bribery. These are, Proportionate Procedures, Top Level Commitment, Risk Assessment, Due Diligence, Communication and Monitoring and Review.
This section finishes with another scenario to enhance your understanding of when an offence has been committed.
The giving of gifts and hospitality is a recognised and important part of doing business. It helps build relationships and it helps create stronger ties.
A normal level of hospitality and giving of gifts is usually perfectly acceptable, but there’s a fine line between what’s acceptable and what’s not, so, when is it appropriate to give a gift? In this section, the course looks at tell-tale signs, things that you should look out for when deciding if something is simply a gift, or whether it could be considered to be a bribe. The section includes a further three scenarios to help your understanding as to whether you are accepting a gift or a bribe.
On completion of this Anti-Bribery training course you will have a clear idea about what bribery is and how serious it is and you should be able to recognise situations where gifts and hospitality shouldn’t be offered or accepted. You should also recognise the signs that suggest that bribery may be taking place and you should know what to do about it.
This course concludes with a test to ensure that you have understood the content.
