Please note that this course is an audio-only course. If you're more of a visual learner, there is an option to follow the transcript to the course or you can put the subtitles on.
The course consists of one section.
Firstly the course starts with thinking about what taxes pay for and why they are so important. The course then goes on to consider the difference between the legal, yet often controversial, role that tax avoidance plays and compares it with the illegal practice of tax evasion.
As tax evasion is illegal, the Criminal Finances Act was created in order to help prevent the crime of tax evasion from happening.
This audio course discusses what this Act is and how it works to prevent tax evasion from taking place.
The Act works by creating two tax evasion offences: the UK Offence and the Foreign Offence. Both of these offences are broken down into three stages which includes that someone has evaded paying UK tax, the second is that the tax evasion was facilitated by a person associated with the relevant organisation and the third is that the organisation, itself, failed to have reasonable prevention procedures in place.
These three stages are looked at in detail to include the Six Guiding Principles to help organisations ensure that they have reasonable prevention procedures in place to avoid facilitation from happening.
The course then concludes with how an organisation might defend itself if it was ever to be in breach of the law. An organisation following the Six Guiding Principles, stand a much better chance of successfully defending themselves.
The course concludes with a test to ensure the user has understood the content and a downloadable CPD accredited certificate is available for download on successful completion of the course.
