A campaign by the Health and Safety Executive aims to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos amongst younger workers

The 'Asbestos & You' campaign is aimed at younger tradespeople who may have missed out on vital training when it comes to dealing with asbestos.

Plumbers, electricians and construction workers who have joined these trades since the use of asbestos was banned in 1999 are being urged to become aware of the dangers of asbestos.

Asbestos was used extensively in older buildings (from the 1950s to the 90s) and workers should be aware of the risks.

Asbestos exposure is the single greatest cause of work related deaths. Disturbing asbestos during renovations to property can cause exposure to dangerous fibres that can develop into life threatening conditions such as lung cancer, asbestosis, and pleural thickening. These conditions can take decades to manifest so it's important workers at every level are aware of the dangers.
