This online Setting Goals training course is designed to help the user understand the importance of setting goals and best practices on how to achieve those goals.

During this course you will think about what goals are and why they’re important; look at a few tried and tested techniques for setting goals; and then, using what you’ve learned, you will have a go at setting one or two of your own - they can be big, small, personal, professional, it’s up to you.  By the end of this course, you will have planned to improve something you do or achieve something new.

This course is split into two sections.

1. Setting Goals

This section firstly looks at why we set goals.  Without goals, we don’t know what direction to head in and so we can’t make the preparations to get there.

Having a destination in mind helps us focus our energies and decide what is truly important and what isn’t.

It means we can plan and prepare wisely, by setting smaller, short-term goals along the way.

Whenever we achieve one of our smaller goals, we feel motivated and confident to work towards the next and as we gather momentum at each stage, we will soon find our ultimate goal is just around the corner.

This section also introduces you to three tried and tested methods for setting goals; SMART goals, WOOP and Anti-Goals.

2. Goal Setting in Action

In this section the course uses the WOOP method (Wish, Outcome, Obstacles, Plan) to help you set some goals of your own, with bits of the other two methods to help you here and there.  You will need pen and paper for this one!

Success looks and feels different to each of us, and goal setting is about working out what success means to us and finding a way to achieve it.

Whether it’s financial, emotional, physical, or career-related, setting goals that are realistic, achievable and exciting will give us our best chance of finding success.
