This Unconscious Bias online training course is designed for the use of the management team in any organisation and aims to help the user identify and reduce biases in the workplace and helps to work towards compliance with The Equality and Diversity Act 2010. By taking this course, the user should be able to reduce the negative impact unconscious bias can have on organisations, understand their responsibilities, and know how biases are formed - to encourage fairer, more inclusive and unbiased behaviour in the workplace.
Biases are natural - they are the result of everything we have ever seen, heard or experienced, but that being said, they shouldn’t go un-checked or un-challenged.
The aim of this training is to help you become aware of any biases you are currently unaware of, and to challenge them. It also explains how these biases shape how we see and understand the world. The course can be used as a tool for reducing bias, which goes hand in hand with encouraging inclusion and diversity, which will benefit all employees and the success of your business as a whole.
This course is split into three sections.
This section covers what unconscious bias actually is and the different types of bias and raises awareness of how we let thoughts and feelings based on past experiences impact the judgements and decisions we make. It also shows us how we can challenge our beliefs and our unconscious pattern of thinking to break out of making decisions based on biases.
Now we know what biases are, how they are formed and the common types of bias, this section tackles what strategies we can use to acknowledge and challenge unconscious bias and how we can reduce the impact of bias in the workplace.
Management have a few extra responsibilities when it comes to reducing unconscious bias in the workplace.
In this section, the course looks at best practice for shortlisting CVs, conducting interviews, and hiring and promoting staff. This section also covers common mistakes that are often made when you rely on your unconscious biases to make decisions. Looking at team dynamics, the importance of an inclusive culture, and how you can encourage your team to stay on track with reducing bias, will also be covered.
On completion of this course you will know how to avoid making automatic assumptions, judgments and decisions about people and to look at the facts in front of you and how you can make unconscious thoughts, conscious thoughts, to make wise and effective decisions. You will know how to apply the ACT strategies to challenge bias and responsibilities management has to reduce bias in the workplace.
The course concludes with a test and on successful completion a printable CPD accredited certificate will be available for download.
