This online training course is designed for all levels of staff and provides the user with information on what a whistleblower is, the laws surrounding whistleblowers, and what constitutes as whistleblowing.

Encouraging whistleblowing is crucial in creating a workplace environment that is honest, positive and open.

Your employer understands this and wants you to have the confidence to raise genuine concerns about safety, malpractice or negligence as soon as you become aware of them.  This will enable them to act promptly to put things right and help prevent wrongdoing.

In this training course you will be looking at what you should report, who you should report to and how you should go about it.

The course is split into three sections.

1. Whistleblowing

‘Whistleblowing’ means bringing attention to misconduct, illegal acts or a failure to act and covers 6 specific areas:

• Dangers to health and safety
• Risks or damage to the environment
• Unlawful activities or criminal acts in an organisation
• Miscarriages of justice
• Failure to comply with legal obligations
• Or the belief that someone is covering up wrongdoing

To ensure the user has understood the meaning of whistleblowing this section finishes with three scenarios where you decide if the whistle should be blown or not in three given situations.

2. Whistleblowing Policy

All organisations should have a Whistleblowing Policy which contains the steps outlined in this section.  This section looks at what you should report, who you should report to, how you should go about it and what happens next.

3. Follow Up

This section aims to teach the user how to handle and store disclosure records and the importance of following up once they have raised a concern.

The section finishes with another three scenarios where you decide what is the correct thing to do in a particular situation.

On completion of this course you will understand how important it is for you to draw attention to any wrongdoing in your organisation and the high importance your employer places on this by providing you with this training.  Remember you are the eyes and ears of your organisation.  Your actions may be instrumental in stopping dangerous or criminal acts from taking place and may even save lives.

This course concludes with a test to ensure you have understood the content.
